In late April, 2004, I was first contacted to record, what was first referred to as, an intimate forty minute concert for around fifty people on May 4th.

What made this gig different than any other? We would be traveling on a jet at over 30,000 feet, flying from Chicago to Los Angeles as Sheryl Crow preformed her music set.

To complicate matters, the FAA would not allow us to connect anything to the plane's electrical system and needed to approve of our equipment. Consequently, I sourced all DC powered speakers, mixers and recorders for the flight.

Part of this Sony/United cross promotion event was the exclusive use of Sony's new Professional Camera model, which recorded to DVD, as my primary music recording device. Touting Sony's DVD picture and sound quality was a major empasis of the project. I fed the multiple cameras an audio mix that would be the only audio used for the project. The footage would be edited during the remainder of the flight and the concert would then be posted on the web as soon as we landed. Even though I recorded a Dat back-up, there would little time to import and sync it, so the camera audio had to be a clean trouble free mix and it was. It was exciting having a part in the first live concert to be preformed, recorded, captured on digital video disk and edited while in-flight.
