When you get the opportunity to be part of a truely once in a lifetime event, you have to take it.
This was the case when I took part in a world-wide, scratch that, galaxy-wide concert event that included Sir Paul McCartney singing a wake up song to the astronaunts in the ISS Space Station over 220 miles above the earth.
It took place in the middle of a concert at the Anaheim Pond in California. Sir Paul sang "Good Day Sunshine" and had a two-way conversation (thanks to our friends at NASA) with his orbitting and very captive audience. I was honored to witness this event and play my role from my mixing postion next to Sir Paul's "front of house" mixer since 1989, Paul “Pablo” Boothroyd. "Pab" was great to work with and mixed an incredible set.
Everything went as rehearsed and the skype-type space call was a success. Once the live Space Station portion of the show ended and Pab and I both settled into our normal roles, I couldn't help but comment on the fact that we were playing a small part in something historical. After all, how many people can say they took part of an event that connected a member of the Beatles with an astronaut in a space station.
